New: Aloe Suede Sabahs 🌱

Good Morning Sabah People,

We're super excited to introduce what feels like our first truly 'spring' offering: the Aloe Sabah.

It's a soft suede in a light aloe green hue -- sourced from our favorite suede producer in Istanbul and handcrafted into a Sabah at our workshop in Gaziantep.

We've only made about 120 pairs of this colorway -- a limited release to tease our way into t-shirt weather!

To debut our Aloe Suede, we spent the afternoon with Trevor Lombaer & Sutathip Aiemsaard of Little Grenjai, a delicious new Thai-American eatery in Bed Stuy.

Little Grenjai.

7 years ago, Trevor Lombaer bought a one-way ticket to Thailand. Within the first three days, he was not only in love with the food, but with his now wife & business partner, Sutathip Aiemsaard - who goes by Pias.

Since they first met in 2017, and Pias moved to Brooklyn from Bangkok a year or so later, the couple has turned a hotdog cart into a Pad Thai stand, created a cult following for a Bangkok-style street food truck known as Warung Roadside, and launched the Sagaponack Supper Club (a take-out and delivery operation) in the Hamptons during COVID times.

And now, the culmination of that 7 year love affair - and their shared story - is a 23-seat Thai-American restaurant in the Bed-Stuy neighborhod of New York City: Little Grenjai, which opened this past January.

Little Grenjai is one of the Sabah team's favorite new eateries in Brooklyn. From their expertly delivered classic pad thai (shown above) & head-on prawns to their holy basil minced pork & drunken noodles - we've been blown away by everything we tasted.

Of course, you can't miss their Krapow Smash Burger -- an absolute hit... and a reflection of their Thai-American sensibilities. Note: it's available at lunch only!

One of the things we love most about Little Grenjai is the original, independent and authentic expression of this place. It's more art & feel than science or data.

That's seen in the restaurant's menu design, signage, interiors & merchandise, all conceived by Pias herself - who was a designer back in Thailand - and reflects their shared identity.

And, of course, the food -- which they say is "75% Thai / 25% American" and in our view, original, fresh, and fiery.

A quick anecdote I found particularly charming -- that's also reflected in the welcoming & neighborly energy of Little Grenjai.

It was only their third date in Thailand when Pias invited Trevor to Sunday lunch, which she regularly enjoyed with her parents in Samut Sakhon, a town right outside of Bangkok. It was a seafood feast. Trevor was blown away by the meal. He remembers a yellow seafood curry served in a thai coconut. And Pias remembers "this guy loved to eat." And from there, Trevor fell in love with the food Pias already loved, and they with each other.

Speaking to Bed-Stuy, the couple is proud that Little Grenjai is quickly becoming a neighborhood spot with a regular clientele, including one man has come everyday for lunch since opening.

Trevor has been in the neighborhood for 13 years, Pias now 7 -- serving the community there is important to them, one they appreciate for its neighborly feel. Folks say hi to each other on the block they told me.

And when we asked them, "Where to Next?"

A cookbook that shares their story & recipes. And... they're also looking for another space! We can't wait to see what they come up with next.
